Job summary

Wellby Financial is seeking a Senior Project Accountant in the Houston area to lead accounting for large-scale capital projects and system implementations. You will partner with finance, IT, and project teams to ensure GAAP-compliant reporting, robust controls, and accurate capitalization of project costs.

The role requires 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with Symitar/Jack Henry. CPA/CMA is preferred; credit union exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting and month-end close.
• Experience supporting capital projects, system implementations, or cross-functional initiatives impacting accounting.
• Experience with accounting systems/ERP platforms and financial applications.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• CPA or CMA certification preferred.
• Credit union, banking, or financial institution experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Accounting Department’s primary representative for enterprise projects, system implementations, process improvement initiatives, and organizational growth activities.
• Coordinate and perform accounting and financial reporting activities related to capital projects, facility improvements, branch expansions, and other growth initiatives.
• Monitor and analyze project-related expenditures and capital investments to ensure appropriate accounting treatment, capitalization, depreciation, and timely recording of project costs.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to project accounting, fixed assets, capital expenditures, and other assigned accounting areas.
• Assist internal and external auditors by providing documentation, explanations, and support related to capital projects, fixed asset accounting, and project-related transactions.
• Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements through ongoing professional development.
