Olympic Steel, Inc. in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Production Planning professional to coordinate material flow and scheduling across the plant.

You will decide steel types for jobs, monitor orders, develop schedules, and work with sales on high-volume accounts. An associate degree or related experience is preferred; strong organization and communication are essential. Competitive benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

• Decides what steel to use for specific jobs and distributes factory orders to individual work areas/machines.
• Monitors incoming orders and incorporates into production schedule.
• Develops and implements production schedules to help achieve company-wide sales/performance goals.
• Distributes production orders to individual work areas/machines.
• Assigns or re-assigns material to orders as necessary.
• Works with sales on managing high-volume accounts and repeating orders.
• Assists in designing the layout of the plant or layouts of materials in the plant to achieve maximum efficiency.
• Applies coils to sales orders according to strategies set by Management; using material reserved for specific customers if available.
• Applies sheets, strip mill plates, and plates to orders per strategy set by Management.
• Match orders to appropriate suppliers/ outside processors based on requirements.
• Assists in coordination of incoming material and sets up and completes inventory runs daily.
• Answers questions for inside sales, inventory, and machine operators as needed.
• Writes process orders for shearing and slit coils.
• Develops and implements production schedules to help achieve company-wide sales/performance goals.
• Assists Foreman or Maintenance Manager in scheduling time for maintenance of machines.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
