Job summary

AbbVie seeks an Associate Director I, Process Development (External Manufacturing) to lead and shape the external manufacturing strategy for small molecules and complex assets across global CRO/CDMOs.

You will guide external partners, manage CMC planning and budgets, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective supply through preclinical to cPOC programs in a fast-paced matrix environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in Process Chemistry with 8+ years of pharma/biotech experience or MS with 10+ years.
• Extensive small molecule process development, cGMP manufacturing, tech transfer.
• Strong understanding of CMC regulatory expectations and quality systems.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects with external partners in a fast-moving env.

Responsibilities

• Lead external manufacturing strategies for SM, t-LNPs, peptides, and ADC assets.
• Own CMC timelines, supply/demand planning, and budget oversight.
• Develop and maintain cost of goods estimates to support decisions.
• Mentor API teams and CRO/CDMO partners in lifecycle planning and scale-up.
• Drive supplier diversification and manage global CRO/CDMO relationships.
