Job summary

Friedman Williams is seeking a Manager, Strategic Pricing to shape pricing strategies that balance client expectations with profitability. You will partner with the Chief Pricing Officer and attorneys to develop innovative fee arrangements and sophisticated pricing models.

This leadership role includes mentoring Pricing Analysts, maintaining pricing databases, and delivering data-driven insights to guide budgets and matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required; professional certifications are a plus.
  • ALPP, PMP certifications are beneficial for the role.
  • Proven experience in strategic pricing and financial modeling in a professional services setting.
  • Experience developing AFAs and client pricing strategies.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Chief Pricing Officer to optimize pricing operations and educate stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor Pricing Analysts to deliver high impact analyses.
  • Create and oversee complex financial models, pricing templates, and profitability analyses for AFAs and proposals.
  • Guide practice groups in budgets, fee estimates, and pricing strategies for matters.
  • Collaborate with attorneys during client pricing discussions to align with client and firm goals.
  • Maintain pricing databases, historical analyses, and forecasting tools.
  • Establish pricing metrics and reporting to measure proposal effectiveness and profitability.
  • Review engagement terms and AFAs to ensure policy compliance.
  • Identify pricing opportunities across practice areas and client portfolios.
  • Monitor market trends and recommend pricing model enhancements.
  • Support annual billing rate reviews and rate administration across offices.
  • Design reporting tools for budgets, performance, and client engagements.

Job description

Are you a strategic pricing professional who thrives at the intersection of finance, analytics, and client strategy? We're seeking a Manager, Strategic Pricing to play a key role in shaping innovative pricing solutions that support our attorneys, strengthen client relationships, and drive the firm's continued success.

In this highly visible leadership role, you'll partner closely with the Chief Pricing Officer, attorneys, and business professionals to develop creative fee arrangements, build sophisticated pricing models, and deliver data-driven insights that balance client expectations with the firm's business objectives. You'll also lead and mentor a team of Pricing Analysts while helping to advance the firm's pricing strategy, tools, and processes.

As the Manager, Strategic Pricing, you will:

  • Partner with the Chief Pricing Officer to enhance pricing operations, improve internal processes, develop educational initiatives, and strengthen communication strategies across the firm.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the firm's team of Pricing Analysts, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Create and oversee sophisticated financial models, pricing templates, and profitability analyses to support alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) and client proposals.
  • Guide attorneys and practice groups in developing budgets, fee estimates, and pricing strategies for new and existing matters.
  • Collaborate with attorneys during client pricing discussions, helping negotiate fee arrangements that align with client expectations and firm objectives.
  • Develop and maintain pricing databases, historical matter analyses, and forecasting tools that improve the accuracy of future pricing decisions.
  • Establish key pricing metrics and reporting that measure proposal effectiveness, profitability, and overall pricing performance.
  • Review client billing guidelines, engagement terms, and alternative fee arrangements to ensure compliance with firm policies.
  • Identify pricing opportunities tailored to specific practice areas, industries, and client portfolios.
  • Monitor legal market trends, competitive pricing, and industry developments, recommending enhancements to pricing models and strategies.
  • Support the firm's annual billing rate review process and oversee billing rate administration across all offices.
  • Design reporting and forecasting tools that enable attorneys to effectively monitor matter budgets, financial performance, and client engagements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; ALPP, PMP, or similar professional certifications are a plus.
  • 5+ years of strategic pricing, financial analysis, or pricing management experience within a law firm, corporate legal department, litigation finance organization, or professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of the business of law, legal pricing, profitability analysis, and law firm financial operations.
  • Experience developing alternative fee arrangements, portfolio pricing strategies, financial modeling, and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated success leading or mentoring teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence attorneys, firm leadership, and clients.
  • Experience driving process improvement initiatives and implementing project management best practices.
  • Experience with Aderant or similar law firm financial and practice management systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and financial modeling.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to improve workflows and business processes.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms such as Power BI is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to develop, maintain, and enhance pricing tools, dashboards, and databases.
