Job summary

Ajax Building Company, part of the STO Building group, is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to lead budgeting, design development, and GMP planning across Florida. This client-facing role requires guiding pricing, validating estimates, and driving coordinated project outcomes with design teams and operations.

You will report to the Director of Preconstruction Services and support multiple sectors, including higher education and healthcare, with some travel to client sites and design

Qualifications

• 5+ years in preconstruction/estimating within commercial construction.
• Experience leading preconstruction efforts from concept through GMP development.
• Willingness to travel for project meetings and presentations.
• Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills for client-facing leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction efforts from conceptual budgeting through design development and GMP in partnership with Operations.
• Guide pricing, validate estimates, and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Develop conceptual budgets, cost models, and design-phase estimates (not detailed quantity takeoffs).
• Create and distribute design phase deliverables, including cost reports and budget updates.
• Prepare and lead GMP proposal development and client presentations.
• Provide constructability feedback and value engineering to advance design cost-effectively.
• Engage with design teams to challenge assumptions and drive buildable solutions.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing with estimating teams.
• Maintain and utilize historical cost data for forecasting and benchmarking.
• Serve as primary contact with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants during preconstruction.
