Job summary

Knutson Construction is seeking a Preconstruction Manager to join our Minneapolis team. This role leads preconstruction on negotiated and hard bid projects, guiding self-perform work, cost models, and front-end documentation.

You will collaborate across operations, marketing, and design to ensure profitable bids and well-planned projects. The position requires strong leadership, planning, and cross-functional coordination, with an emphasis on subcontractor management, risk assessment, and value

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture or related field with 5+ years of commercial construction experience, or an Associate’s degree with 7+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Reviews takeoffs for self-perform work to increase profitability.
• Reviews self-perform labor, material and equipment using historic data and supplier pricing.
• Leverages supplier relationships to win profitable self-perform work.
• Leads the Self-Perform SOP with operations and site staff.
• Sells Self-Perform advantages to the project.
• Works with stakeholders to manage preconstruction for negotiated and hard bid projects.
• Completes conceptual/program estimates from RFP and conceptual documents.
• Develops cost models and front-end specifications for proposals.
• Trains estimators and prepares project cost documentation.
• Keeps budgets and programs updated for stakeholders.
