Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants seeks an experienced Project Management Technical Director to lead large, complex environmental projects in Northern and Central California. You will steer client relationships, set PM standards, and drive performance and growth across the subregion with a focus on quality and efficiency.

The role offers hybrid or fully remote options, travel to client sites, and collaboration with senior leadership to shape technical direction and ensure delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, natural resources, environmental planning, geology, engineering, geography, business administration, project management, or a related discipline.
• 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in project management, project controls, program management, or a related professional services environment.
• 6+ years of leadership experience within a consulting, environmental services, engineering, or professional services organization.

Responsibilities

• Identify and implement strategic initiatives and drive project management consistency across the subregion.
• Maintain a suite of project management standards, best practices, processes, tools, and templates.
• Strengthen cross-discipline collaboration across offices within the subregion.
• Champion cross-discipline communication to ensure tools, standards, and processes are understood and executed.
• Lead change management efforts for rollout of PM practices and tools with stakeholder engagement.
• Drive continuous improvement to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of project performance.
• Track Project Management Plans and support PMs in development and implementation.
• Identify and track KPIs that support growth and performance across the subregion.
• Assist Operations leaders with recruiting, onboarding, supervising, and mentoring PM talent.
• Oversee large multidisciplinary projects with a productivity goal of 50%.
