Job summary

City of Corona is seeking a Deputy Director/Director to plan, organize, and manage the Planning and Development Department, including planning, engineering, building, and compliance inspections. The role provides administrative direction, develops policies, and coordinates with City departments and external agencies to advance the City's planning goals.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in urban/planning or related field.
• Experience: Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible administrative government experience in planning, building, housing, or a related field, including five (5) years of management experience, preferably at a Deputy Director or Director level.

Responsibilities

• Assumes full management responsibility for all Planning and Development Department programs, services, and activities.
• Develops, directs, and coordinates goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the department; establishes budget, service, and staffing levels.
• Oversees budget administration and forecasting for staffing, equipment, and supplies; monitors expenditures and adjusts budgets as needed.
• Selects, trains, motivates, and directs department personnel; evaluates performance and enforces disciplinary actions as needed.
• Represents the department to City officials, outside agencies, developers, and the public; provides professional guidance to the City Manager.
• Directs development of long-range planning documents and policy updates; serves as liaison to Planning and Housing Commission and Historic Preservation Board.
