Job summary

The City of Riverside is seeking a Deputy Economic & Development Director to lead planning, building, code enforcement, and economic development operations. Two vacancies exist and an eligibility list may fill current or upcoming roles for six months.

This exempt, non-classified position is at-will and reports to the City Manager. Responsibilities include directing budgets, coordinating with other departments and outside agencies, and advising elected officials on development matters.

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible admin and supervisory management experience in community development or urban planning.
• Experience managing department budgets, processes, and staff.
• Ability to coordinate cross-departmental programs and external agencies.
• Knowledge of city planning, building, code enforcement, and economic development practices.
• Appointment at-will; exempt from classified service.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage administration of planning, building, code enforcement, and economic development.
• Coordinate department budget development, forecasting, and expenditure approvals.
• Direct implementation of policies, procedures, and service standards.
• Oversee cross-divisional coordination with other departments and agencies.
• Monitor performance metrics and drive process improvements.
• Advise elected officials and commissions on development matters.
