Job summary

Horwitz is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead a team responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant payroll across our office and union field workforce. This hands-on leader will own payroll operations, strengthen controls, develop the team, and improve the systems and processes that support employees and the business.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of payroll taxes, quarterly/annual filings, benefits deductions, reconciliations, year-end processing.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel; experience across payroll, accounting, timekeeping, or HR systems.
• Clear communication and collaboration with employees, managers, and cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of four responsible for weekly office and union field payroll, setting standards for accuracy, service, and deadlines.
• Review and approve payroll calculations for wages, salaries, bonuses, and deductions.
• Maintain payroll records and oversee onboarding, changes, and offboarding.
• Support Miter payroll system configuration, testing, reporting, and improvements.
• Prepare and analyze payroll/labor-cost reports and resolve discrepancies.
