Job summary

CU*Answers in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits professional to own weekly payroll processing for multiple company partners and serve as the go-to resource for payroll taxes, 401(k) administration, compliance, and employee questions.

You will manage taxes, deductions, adjustments, and record changes, while coordinating with HR and Accounting on FMLA, wage verification, and state reporting. Strong attention to detail and ability to explain complex rules are essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of direct payroll experience required.
• Associate degree in business, accounting, finance or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, compliance and reconciliation.
• Experience with 401(k) administration and retirement plans.
• Familiarity with SECURE 2.0 and payroll regulations; Excel proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Process and oversee weekly payroll for multiple partners.
• Manage payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and employee records.
• Administer 401(k) contributions and reconciliations.
• Record payroll entries and assist with reconciliations of benefits.
• Collaborate with HR and Accounting on compliance and wage verification.
• Handle fringe benefits, company vehicle usage, moving/travel pay as needed.
• Support filings (Form 940, 941, W-2, W-3) and multi-state tax reporting.
• Explain payroll, tax, and retirement plan details to employees clearly.
