Job summary

VCU Health seeks a Patient Flow Coordinator to optimize hospital-wide patient placement and transfers. You will work with physicians, nursing leadership and transport teams to ensure timely, appropriate bed assignments and smooth admissions and discharges.

The role requires RN licensure in Virginia and acute care experience, with opportunities to develop leadership and process-improvement skills within a dynamic health system.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Associate degree in nursing with current RN licensure in Virginia.
• 3+ years of acute care clinical experience.
• Ability to coordinate patient flow, bed placement and transfers.
• Familiarity with EMTALA and hospital registration procedures.
• Strong communication and collaboration across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient triage, bed placement and transfers in a timely, orderly manner.
• Serve as clinical and administrative resource for complex bed assignments.
• Collaborate with physicians, Nurse Managers, charge nurses and support staff to address flow barriers.
• Coordinate and triage acceptance for transfers and transport with Lifecom/Bed Management.
• Support psych intake referrals with psychiatric admissions representatives and One Call Center.
• Assist admission physicians in determining appropriate level of care and age-specific requirements.
• Monitor bed management using established criteria and clinical guidelines.
