Job summary

Tarvos Talent LLC partners with a mission-driven nonprofit in Austin, TX to identify a Controller for a hybrid leadership role (2–3 days in office). You will work closely with executive leadership to strengthen financial infrastructure and enable scalable growth.

Responsibilities include leading month-end close, managing AP/AR, GAAP-compliant reporting, audit coordination, Form 990 filings, donor compliance, and implementing efficient controls and automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in accounting or finance.
• 8+ years progressive accounting experience.
• 4+ years in controller or senior leadership role.
• Strong nonprofit fund accounting experience.
• Experience with annual audits, Form 990 filings, and grant compliance.
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit reporting standards.
• Experience with accounting system implementations or migrations.
• Leadership and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
• Oversee AP, AR, cash management, reconciliations, and collections.
• Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and fund accounting processes.
• Partner with executive leadership on reporting, analysis, and strategy.
• Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actual reporting, and cash flow forecasts.
• Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors.
• Manage Form 990 filings and grant compliance.
• Ensure compliance with grant restrictions and internal controls.
• Oversee investment and reserve account reconciliations.
• Document procedures and drive automation and scalable controls.
• Participate in board and committee reporting.
