Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Controller for a nonprofit organization in Providence, RI to lead finance and accounting operations and serve on the executive leadership team. The role requires hands-on leadership of accounting processes, strong internal controls, and collaboration with both financial and program staff.

The successful candidate will drive budgeting, financial reporting, and multi-entity coordination while strengthening systems and developing people in a mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Significant nonprofit accounting experience required.
• Strong governance, budgeting, and financial reporting skills.
• Proven ability to manage and develop teams.
• Excellent communication with non-financial stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization's day-to-day finance and accounting operations.
• Oversee general ledger activity, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Manage and ensure timely completion of month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for executive leadership and other stakeholders.
• Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and nonprofit requirements.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes, policies, and procedures.
• Evaluate and improve accounting systems, infrastructure, and financial workflows.
• Lead, mentor, coach, and develop members of the finance and accounting team.
• Partner with executive leadership and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight and support decision-making.
• Explain complex financial information in a clear and accessible manner to non-financial stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, controls, and financial reporting.
• Manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced and evolving organization.
• Support organizational goals through sound financial leadership, analysis, and best practices.
• Maintain the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality, accuracy, and financial integrity.
