Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division is seeking a Comptroller to lead financial operations across DHQ, Corps, programs, and service locations. This role partners with the Director of Finance to ensure GAAP reporting, grant compliance, and strong internal controls, while guiding budgeting, forecasting, and audit readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA, CMA or Master’s degree preferred but not required.
• 3–5 years accounting experience preferably in a nonprofit environment with multi-source grants.
• Experience with city, county, state or federal funding streams strongly preferred.
• Supervisory experience in Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivables or accounting roles is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Regular budget consolidation and cash flow management.
• GAAP financial reporting and monthly/quarterly/annual statements.
• Grant accounting, compliance and Uniform Guidance support.
• AP/AR oversight and staff leadership.
• Internal controls development and compliance monitoring.
• Month-end close, financial analysis and variance explanations.
• Audit materials preparation for annual and funder reviews.
• Collaborate with program leadership and executives to analyze financial health.
