Job summary

Snap-on Tools in Elkmont, Alabama, is seeking a full-time Materials and Purchasing Manager for our on-site manufacturing plant. The role ensures uninterrupted material flow and optimizes inventory while leading purchasing, planning, and supplier management to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

You will oversee vendor performance, implement cost-saving initiatives, and coordinate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in SCM, business, operations, engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in purchasing, materials management or supply chain leadership.
• Manufacturing environment experience required.
• Experience managing suppliers and contract negotiations.
• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
• ERP/MRP experience (Infor LN, SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc.).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis, including Power BI.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with business objectives.
• Source, negotiate, and manage supplier agreements and contracts.
• Evaluate supplier performance on quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness.
• Lead supplier development and corrective action initiatives.
• Identify cost reduction and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Ensure material availability to support production schedules.
• Manage MRP/ERP planning processes and inventory accuracy.
• Establish inventory targets and monitor turns.
• Reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
• Coordinate cycle counts and physical inventory activities.
• Supervise shipping and receiving activities.
• Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Finance teams.
• Support new product introductions and engineering changes.
• Resolve material shortages and supply chain disruptions.
• Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply risks.
• Lead and develop purchasing and materials personnel.
• Establish department KPIs and performance metrics.
• Coach team members and promote accountability.
