Job summary

Clayton seeks a Material Planner to maintain uninterrupted material flow from vendors to the Supply Facility in Tennessee. You will release purchase orders, track inventory, and communicate shortages to customers and suppliers, supporting ERP initiatives.

Reporting to the Warehouse Manager with a dotted line to the Home Office Materials Department, you will drive continuous improvement, uphold lean principles, and help optimize procurement and logistics processes across the Clayton Supply unit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply-Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or 7-10 years’ equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in material planning, supply-chain planning or building materials management.
• Experience with ERP systems; Oracle experience preferred.
• Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
• Self-starter with Lean principles.
• APICS membership/courses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop a world class material planning discipline to support ERP initiatives.
• Work and communicate collaboratively with the other disciplines within the facility.
• Determine required materials and issue purchase orders.
• Resolve material shortages, backlogs, and other potential schedule interruptions.
• Monitor inventory accuracy and identify root-causes for inventory variance.
• Operate and order within the supply contractual terms.
• Review vendor created backorders and develop corrective actions with suppliers.
• Monitor terms and performance standards on all vendor and supplier contracts.
• Implement and abide by corporate policies and procedures.
• Prepare reports and monitor inventory, material usage and efficiency.
• Create strategic solutions to improve material flow.
• Recommend product substitutions based on material shortages.
