Job summary

Vaco is seeking a hands-on Controller to build and scale the finance and accounting function for a Dallas-based manufacturing subsidiary. The ideal candidate will lead accounting and reporting, drive scalable processes, and partner with operations to improve margins and performance.

Responsibilities include close processes, policy development, cost accounting, variance analysis, and collaboration with corporate finance to ensure enterprise alignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
• CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the division’s accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring GAAP-compliant results.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close, GL accounting, reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and balance sheet integrity.
• Establish and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and financial reporting processes as the organization scales.
• Coordinate with corporate finance to align with enterprise standards and deadlines.
• Manage external audit support and maintain proper documentation and controls.
• Oversee manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing, inventory valuation, labor and overhead absorption, and cost analyses.
• Analyze cost variances, material usage, labor efficiency, and overhead to improve margins.
• Partner with plant/operations leadership to improve visibility into manufacturing performance and profitability.
• Evaluate inventory accuracy, reserves, obsolescence, work-in-process, and related controls for reliable reporting.
• Develop reporting tools that connect operational performance with financial outcomes.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and performance management with leadership.
• Provide analysis of revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, working capital and other KPIs.
• Translate results into actionable insights to support decision-making and cost management.
• Support capital expenditure analysis and ROI evaluations.

Education
