Job summary

Hudbay, a copper-focused mining company, is seeking a Long-Term Mine Planning Engineer to develop and maintain the Life-of-Mine plan and optimize pit design over decades. Reporting to Sr.

Principal Mine Engineer, you will evaluate which deposit parts are profitable to mine and guide major capital investments. You will perform trade-off studies, pushback design, and sensitivity analyses, coordinating with environmental, CAPEX planning and reserves teams to ensure safe, efficient operations and

Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience in open pit mine engineering or mine planning.
• 3+ years of mine planning experience in a similar operation.
• Expert-level knowledge of mine planning software and optimization principles.
• Strong financial acumen including DCF valuation and cost-benefit analysis.
• Strategic mindset for big-picture engineering and long-term value creation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Life-of-Mine (LOM) plan and optimize pit design.
• Conduct pit/phase optimization and pushback design for continuous ore access.
• Coordinate with geologists to convert Resources to Proven and Probable Reserves.
• Perform sensitivity analyses and What-If scenarios for price/cost changes.
• Forecast CAPEX and ensure alignment with environmental and operational constraints.
