Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington seeks a Senior Director, Development to lead a high-performing fundraising operation, drive annual revenue goals, and strengthen donor engagement across portfolios. The role emphasizes strategic vision, data-driven decision making, and accountability for performance in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, philanthropic studies, communications, sociology, or equivalent experience.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive nonprofit development experience.
• Proven success generating revenue in all major arenas, including: individual, planned, corporate, foundation giving, and special events.
• Knowledge and practice of the ethical standards within the fundraising industry.
• Proven leadership and staff management experience.
• Comfort and experience engaging with senior leaders, including the President & CEO, and board members.
• Excellent written, attention to detail, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office desktop applications.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle.
• Experience using Raiser’s Edge.
• Strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a drive for performance and accountability within the development function.
• Drive execution against annual fundraising goals and address performance gaps.
• Develop budgets, revenue projections, and fundraising forecasts.
• Represent the organization in high-level meetings and fundraising discussions.
• Build and sustain donor relationships and engagement strategies.
