Job summary

Project On Government Oversight (POGO) seeks a Director of Information Technology to provide strategic leadership of IT strategy, security, governance, and infrastructure. The role partners with the VP of Finance and Administration to align technology with organizational goals and ensure data protection, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive IT experience with leadership and budget responsibility.
• Experience setting and executing technology strategy aligned to organizational goals.
• Experience owning a cybersecurity program, including risk assessment and policy development.
• Experience governance and compliance, including data protection, privacy, PCI, and accessibility obligations.
• Budget ownership, vendor selection and contract negotiation; build/buy decisions.
• Knowledge of cloud-first enterprise environments, including Microsoft 365 and Entra.
• Experience supervising and developing technical staff.
• Excellent communication to translate technical matters for non-technical executives.
• Commitment to an inclusive work environment and to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Legal/compliance or privacy background or advisory experience preferred.
• Experience delivering technology solutions to increase program impact (data pipelines, automation, analysis tools).

Responsibilities

• Set multi-year technology strategy and roadmap aligned with the organization.
• Advise leadership on technology posture with options and costs.
• Own cybersecurity program and report risk to executives.
• Develop and adopt technology, data governance, and security policies.
• Define data protection, privacy, accessibility, PCI obligations, and legal considerations.
• Identify technology solutions to increase program impact in research, policy, advocacy, or investigations.
• Lead information architecture, data management, and standards adoption across departments.
• Lead and develop the IT team and set service standards for the function.
