Job summary

American Enterprise Institute (AEI) in Washington, DC, seeks a full-time, in-person manager or assistant director, HR programs and operations, to join AEI’s HR & Talent Development team. The role administers HR programs, oversees the internship program, and guides managers on workplace matters to strengthen employee relations and organizational effectiveness.

Reporting to the VP of HR and Talent Development, you will supervise HR staff, manage budgets, and collaborate across departments to

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, analytics, organizational psychology, or public policy
• SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent HR certification preferred
• Experience managing employee relations matters including investigations and performance management
• Ability to lead projects and implement process improvements across departments
• Supervising or mentoring employees preferred
• Working knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and compliance requirements
• Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to balance confidentiality with advising managers and employees

Responsibilities

• HR Programs and Operations: manage assigned HR programs, budgets, and cross-functional initiatives
• Employee Relations and Workplace Support: handle investigations, performance concerns, and employee development
• Governance, Compliance, and Risk: ensure policy consistency and regulatory compliance across the organization
• Organizational Effectiveness: support design, team structure, and planning with leadership
• Team Leadership: supervise and develop HR staff and coordinate with VP of HR and Talent Development
