Job summary

The Deputy Director of Human Resources at Washington County Government will assist the Director by planning, managing and coordinating day-to-day HR operations, supervising staff, and advancing strategic initiatives across the department.

You will act as a trusted partner to senior leadership, oversee benefits/payroll/compliance, and provide leadership in the Director's absence. This role requires collaboration, discretion, and strong policy knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in HR management, business administration, or related field.
• PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
• 3–5 years in a people-manager role and government HR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and coordinate day-to-day HR operations and staff.
• Supervise HR personnel and support strategic initiatives.
• Oversee benefits, payroll, and compliance with federal/state/local laws.
• Represent HR in director's absence and assist in budgeting and staffing decisions.
• Counsel leaders and employees on personnel issues and disciplinary actions.
