Job summary

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care is seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to support leaders and teams across our growing network of hospitals in Maine. The role emphasizes balancing strategy with action, building relationships, and delivering a people-first employee experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field.
• 4+ years of HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience.
• Strong knowledge of employment law, leaves of absence, workers' compensation, and HR compliance.
• Experience with HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred).

Responsibilities

• Partner with leaders and teams across multiple hospital locations, building strong relationships and providing consistent HR support.
• Lead workplace investigations, leave administration, accommodations, and risk management initiatives.
• Manage onboarding, offboarding, pay and status changes, and compliance reporting.
• Analyze turnover, engagement, and workforce trends to develop actionable recommendations.
• Coach and develop managers to build strong teams and effective leadership practices.
• Support employee engagement, retention, and positive workplace culture initiatives.
• Serve as a trusted advisor during organizational change and growth.
