Job summary

MassMutual in Boston or Springfield, MA, seeks a strategic Head of Operational Risk Assessments and Governance to lead enterprise risk oversight as the second line of defense for process execution risks.

The role drives risk & control assessment, risk appetite, loss event tracking, and post-incident analysis, partnering with risk owners and control functions to strengthen resilience and governance frameworks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in risk/operations or related field.
• 10 years in operational risk/enterprise risk with 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Experience with risk & control assessment programs (RCSA) and post-incident analysis.
• Experience overseeing operational resilience programs or challenging business continuity and crisis management.
• Strong understanding of risk frameworks, regulatory expectations, and industry best practices.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence at all levels of the organization.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
• Experience with GRC platforms and risk data analytics tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise-wide risk & control assessment programs across the organization.
• Oversee identification, assessment, and monitoring of process execution risks across units.
• Ensure controls are documented in the GRC system and designed to prevent/detect risks.
• Provide independent assessment and support for control design and mitigation.
• Develop scenario analysis, loss event data collection, and root cause analysis processes.
• Monitor emerging risks, regulatory developments, and industry trends to inform risk strategy.
• Chair governance committees and provide second-line oversight of resilience strategies.
• Deliver risk reporting to senior leadership and risk committees and drive governance improvements.
