Job summary

Brookline seeks a Supervisor of Fleet & Facilities Services to oversee repair, maintenance, and acquisition of Town vehicles and equipment, including Water and Sewer assets, and to manage facilities and satellite locations for the Department of Public Works.

The role requires strong leadership, budget management, and knowledge of vehicle maintenance, with attention to compliance and safety across fueling, inspections, and emissions programs.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in business administration, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
• Five to seven years of municipal public works experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience accepted.
• A valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement is required.

Responsibilities

• Administer a comprehensive fleet management program tracking service and replacement cycles for Town vehicles and equipment.
• Research best practices, develop policy, and implement technologies for efficiency and sustainability.
• Participate in long-range financial and capital planning and grant administration.
• Manage the fleet and facilities maintenance program budget, expenditures, and purchasing.
• Supervise, train, evaluate Fleet and Facilities Services staff; participate in hiring and disciplinary processes; oversee payroll.
• Ensure compliance with fueling, hazardous materials, vehicle inspection, emissions, disposal, and recycling regulations; train employees.
• Establish safety programs, conduct safety appraisals at satellite locations, and take corrective action as needed.
• Maintain records and prepare monthly reports and daily inventory reviews.
• Oversee fueling systems, fuel allocation programs, and EV charging infrastructure.
• Prepare vehicle, equipment, and facility specifications; develop RFPs and bid documents; monitor contracts and warranties.
• Respond to staff, resident, and agency inquiries and complaints.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices; perform off-hours and emergency duties.

Education
