Job summary

The California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA seeks a Finance Manager to lead financial strategy across multiple funding streams, oversee budgeting, purchasing, accounting, personnel and payroll, and prepare financial reports. Qualifications

• 5+ years fiscal management experience in a complex, multi-fund fiscal environment.
• Experience managing staff.
• Ability to formulate and recommend financial strategy to Institute leadership.
• Proficiency with desktop database query tools and spreadsheets for ad hoc queries using ODBC/SQL.
• Skill in financial analysis, planning, budgeting across multi-fund sources.
• Ability to prepare budgets and projections using spreadsheets and databases.
• Ability to align resources with programmatic needs and priorities.
• Experience designing and maintaining MIS and planning/reporting tools.
• Ability to set priorities across multiple tasks.
• Ability to work with diverse university staff and external partners.
• Diplomacy and confidentiality in sensitive situations.
• Proven supervisory capabilities and team-building.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Formulate financial strategy and direction for CNSI across multiple funding streams.
• Oversee budgeting, purchasing, accounting, personnel and payroll services, and reporting.
• Provide financial oversight to CNSI programs and self-sustaining activities.
• Prepare the Institute's annual budget with Executive Director and Director.
• Train and supervise staff to ensure sound financial management.
• Interact with University staff and external professionals to facilitate collaboration.
