Job summary

UCLA CNSI is seeking a senior Manager to shape financial strategy for a multi funded research institute. You will oversee budgeting, purchasing, accounting, personnel and payroll services, and prepare comprehensive financial reports.

Qualifications

• 5+ years fiscal management experience in a complex, multi-fund fiscal environment.
• Demonstrated experience in the management of staff.
• Ability to formulate and recommend financial strategy to Institute leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to work with desktop database query tools and spreadsheets to create ad hoc queries and reports using ODBC databases and SQL type languages.
• Demonstrated skill in financial analysis, planning, preparation, and administration of multi-million dollar budgets encompassing multi fund sources.
• Demonstrated skill in preparing budgets and projections using desktop spreadsheets and database software.
• Ability to correlate available fiscal resources with programmatic needs, establish priorities, and make appropriate recommendations for allocations.
• Demonstrated ability to design, implement and maintain electronic and physical management information systems and financial planning and reporting tools.
• Demonstrated skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect varying levels of importance and multiple work assignments.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse, multicultural environment interacting with University staff, researchers, and industry partners.
• Ability to use diplomacy and respect confidentiality in sensitive situations.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise effectively and to create a team atmosphere that fosters collaboration.
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Formulate financial strategy and direction for CNSI and oversee budgeting, purchasing, accounting, personnel and payroll services, and financial reports.
• Provide financial oversight to CNSI programs and manage self-sustaining activities including the in-house incubator for start-ups.
• Collaborate with Executive Director and Director to prepare the Institute's annual budget.
• Train and supervise staff; ensure sound financial management practices.
• Interact with university staff and external business professionals to support complex partnerships.
