Job summary

NASW Assurance Services, Inc. (ASI) in Washington, DC, is seeking a hands-on Director of Finance & Controller to serve as the financial backbone for two mission-driven organizations.

You will own the full accounting cycle, oversee budgeting, forecasting, board reporting, and modernize financial systems while partnering with the CEO. Hybrid work with 3 days in office.

The role offers base salary of $130,000–$165,000 plus benefits and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial statement expertise.
• Comfort handling both analysis and transaction processing.
• Clear, confident communication with non-finance stakeholders.
• CPA or active progress toward certification (preferred).
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated environments.
• Background in nonprofit, association, or multi-entity settings.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks, Bill.com, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

• Full-cycle accounting: GL, AP/AR, reconciliations, journal entries, and cash management in QuickBooks and Bill.com.
• Monthly and year-end close, financial statements, and variance analysis.
• Budget development, forecasting, and financial modeling.
• Board and executive reporting—own the financials for leadership and the Board.
• Audit, tax, and regulatory coordination with external partners.
• Banking, treasury, and investment account management.
• Process improvement and financial systems ownership to modernize finance.
