Location : Washington, DC (Hybrid – 3 Days In Office)
Salary : $130,000 – $165,000

ASI is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and operates with a small staff of ~14 people. The majority of operations are outsourced, so this role carries significant scope and visibility. You'll manage real lines of business — Group Life & Health Insurance, Professional Liability, a Captive Insurance Company, and more — without the bureaucracy of a large corporate environment. We're a values-driven team. We take our work seriously, support each other, and believe in doing the right thing — for our members, our profession, and each other.
Our DC office is centrally located and easily accessible by Metro, bus, and major commuter routes — no car required. This is a hybrid role with approximately 3 days in the office per week.
This role is more than a title upgrade. NASW Assurance Services, Inc. (ASI) is looking for a hands‑on finance leader who wants to own something — not just manage it. As our Director of Finance & Controller, you'll be the financial backbone of two mission‑driven organizations that serve America's social work profession. You'll work closely with the CEO and a lean, collaborative team where your work actually moves the needle. If you're a sharp accounting professional ready to modernize a financial infrastructure, present to a Board, and still roll up your sleeves in QuickBooks — this one's worth a closer look.
The successful candidate will be an ambitious accounting and finance professional who has developed a strong accounting foundation and is ready to take broader ownership of a financial function.
Initially, the Director of Finance & Controller will be highly involved in daily accounting operations while establishing strong financial processes, controls, and reporting capabilities.
As the organizations grow and potentially add finance staff, the role is expected to increasingly focus on:
The anticipated base salary range is $130,000 to $165,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, technical expertise, and relevant industry background.
The position is also expected to include a competitive benefits package and opportunities for increasing responsibility and career advancement.
ASI is committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and will provide reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process. ASI does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, or any other protected category.
