Job summary

Veterinary Information Network, Inc. is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and financial reporting, oversee all accounting operations, and ensure GAAP compliance. This hands-on leader partners with executives, drives internal controls, and supports growth through financial analysis and process improvements.

The role reports to the COO, with 4–5 direct reports, in-office presence four days per week in Davis, CA. CPA is preferred; relocation not offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience leading accounting staff and developing teams.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Leadership aligned with VIN values: candid, respectful, collaborative, accountable, open to feedback.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements accurately and timely.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to leadership.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies.
• Coordinate audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Lead and develop the accounting team with clear expectations and accountability.
• Drive process improvement and system optimization initiatives.
