Job summary

M&T Bank in Buffalo, New York is seeking an Employee Relations subject matter expert to deliver enterprise-wide ER solutions by consulting with leaders, managers, and employees on complex workplace issues.

You will counsel on corrective actions, lead investigations, train managers on policy, and promote fair, compliant practices while upholding bank standards and regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field (HR, Business Administration, Communications) and 5+ years relevant work experience.
• Experience consulting on ER issues and conducting and leading investigations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel, including overnight travel, as needed.
• Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, influencing, writing, and mediation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to think critically and work with agility in a dynamic, changing environment.
• Proven ability to be self-motivated, well organized, and constantly learning.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert on employee relations matters with significant impact.
• Participate in senior level HR projects as required and work with senior level management to adjudicate high level complex ER issues.
• Deliver high quality decisions and counsel to managers and employees; identify and analyze ER matters and recommend appropriate employment action.
• Administer the Bank’s Performance Expectations and Corrective Action Policy and oversee termination processes.
• Counsel managers on Corrective Action and participate in regulatory complaints.
• Understand the employee handbook and interpret/counsel employees and managers as needed.
• Receive complaints, conduct investigations, assist the Investigations Team, and counsel employees.
• Counsel employees on conduct issues and facilitate dispute resolutions.
• Conduct trainings on ER topics and develop training programs for various levels.
• Identify alternatives and solutions for ER matters requiring intervention.
• Collaborate with other HR Centers of Excellence for interdisciplinary issues.
