Job summary

Prince William County is seeking an Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager to lead a county-wide safety and environmental program. This role involves hands-on field work, training, project management, and cross-department collaboration to develop strategic environmental, health and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7 years of EHS program management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or closely related field preferred.
• 8+ years professional experience in environmental or safety compliance programming.
• 2+ years supervising employees or cross-functional teams.
• Professional certifications such as CHP, PMP, OHST, CHMM, REM, REP, ARM or similar.

Responsibilities

• Actively manage and participate in the daily operations of a comprehensive environmental, safety, health and wellness program by establishing risk management and liability reduction procedures; and ensuring department compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.
• Supervise staff including prioritizing, assigning and scheduling work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
• Perform complex technical work related to a wide range of safety and environmental initiatives.
• Provide technical assistance, consultation, training, and guidance on environmental and safety policies and regulations to all County departments and reporting personnel.
• Facilitate and manage compliance audits and inspections, making programming recommendations for department management for high-level control measures.
• Prepare professional reports and documents, and complete regulatory filings and submissions.
• Create and deliver engaging and effective outreach and education programs.
