Job summary

The Prince William Health District within the Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Health Manager Sr. to lead environmental programs with a focus on long-term planning, resource development, and staff supervision.

The role includes administrative, policy, and QA responsibilities and may oversee programs such as food, soils, air, and drinking water. This position offers state salary range 94,079–123,997 with a 20% local supplement, plus generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of EH programs, epidemiology, leadership and management principles.
• Skills in program management, risk assessment, software automation, coaching, and supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication with focus on technical reports.
• Ability to manage collaboratively complex EH programs, develop teams and shared visions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, public, and officials.
• Ability to handle difficult and rapidly changing scenarios.
• Valid State Driver's License required to operate agency vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Manage environmental programs in a district or central office, focusing on long-term actions and strategic planning.
• Oversee staffing, resource acquisition, regulatory and public resources support; supervise staff.
• Incorporate administrative actions, policy and quality assurance responsibilities.
• Provide supervision and coaching to staff; ensure program integrity across EH domains (food, soils, air, drinking water, etc.).
• Engage with stakeholders to develop shared visions and collaborative approaches.
