Job summary

ReNEW Schools in Hartford, CT, seeks a Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning to provide strategic leadership and oversight for all secondary instructional programs district-wide. Qualifications

• Master's degree in education, curriculum & instruction, or related field is required.
• Minimum of five years of teaching experience in a secondary school setting; urban experience preferred.
• Three years as an instructional coach, specialist, or administrator; urban experience preferred.
• Proven expertise in designing standards-based culturally responsive curricula and assessments.
• Experience with Common Core State Standards and data-driven improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead, direct, and coordinate the work of the Secondary Teaching and Learning team to support schools
• Develop, implement, and evaluate a culturally relevant secondary curriculum aligned to CCSS
• Research, pilot, and recommend multicultural instructional materials and resources
• Lead professional development for teachers and administrators aligned to the district's framework
• Support MTSS implementation to support struggling learners
• Analyze district student assessment data by demographics to identify gaps
• Collaborate with school leaders to build instructional leadership capacity
• Foster a culture of high expectations and oversee coaching of teachers
• Recruit and develop a diverse district instructional team
• Keep apprised of current reform models and best practices
• Provide leadership in CCSS implementation and standard-based curriculum/instruction/assessment
• Monitor curriculum implementation through visits and consultations
• Use data-driven decision making to modify curriculum and instruction
• Perform other duties as directed by the Chief Academic Officer
