Job summary

Blue Ridge Humane Society in Mills River, NC seeks a Development Director to lead fundraising strategy across major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, donor stewardship, and partnerships. This Exempt, full-time role reports to the Executive Director and works with leadership to set priorities, build donor relationships, and ensure financial sustainability.

Responsibilities include developing plans, managing staff, overseeing events and grants, and advancing BRHS's mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience preferred.
• Minimum four years of progressively responsible professional fundraising experience, including major gift cultivation and solicitation; prior staff supervision or departmental leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with donor databases and fundraising technology (DonorPerfect preferred) and email marketing platforms (Constant Contact preferred).

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual fundraising plan aligned with organizational priorities and revenue goals.
• Lead fundraising strategies for major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, partnerships, grants, and events.
• Supervise development staff, coordinate priorities, and ensure effective internal communication.
• Manage donor cultivation, stewardship, and relationships with individuals, boards, and partners.
• Provide strategic direction for grants, campaigns, and donor communications.
