Job summary

DeKalb County seeks an experienced Director of Code Compliance/Enforcement to lead the county’s code compliance activities and oversee the Code Enforcement Department. The role reports to the CEO and shapes enforcement strategy to ensure compliance with zoning, building and maintenance codes.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology, Engineering, Architecture or a related field required (Master's degree preferred).
Ten years of experience in code compliance with three years of management experience for a comparably sized organization or as a deputy director for a smaller organization.
Specific License or Certification: Georgia driver's license and GACE certification or ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification.

Responsibilities

Direct the code enforcement program and oversee staff to ensure enforcement of local, state and federal laws.
Develop and implement short- and long-term department plans, budgets and policies.
Represent DeKalb County to the public, officials and developers; provide policy recommendations.
Monitor program effectiveness and provide progress reports to executives and elected officials.
Train and mentor staff, promote continuous improvement and high standards of performance.
