Job summary

Minnehaha County is seeking a Commission Administrative Officer to advise and support the Board of County Commissioners in leading County government. This is a full-time role with a strong emphasis on strategic planning, policy execution, and intergovernmental collaboration.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree (public administration or related field) and at least seven years of public administration experience; MBA or JD preferred.

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in public administration, business, or closely related field; seven years of increasingly responsible experience in public administration or related field.
• Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Ability to develop and negotiate collaborative relationships with local, regional, and national stakeholders to advance County legislative agendas.
• Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public administration, state laws and regulations, and budget processes.

Responsibilities

• Advise and support a five-member, part-time Board of County Commissioners in the leadership of County government.
• Coordinate short and long-range planning processes for overall County operations.
• Collaborate with department heads, state agencies, other local governments, boards, partners and the public to implement policies.
• Develop and maintain relationships with legislators to provide information and advance County legislative agenda.
• Represent the Commissioners at meetings with other government entities and in labor relations and contract negotiations.
• Oversee preparation and review of County budgets; organize budget hearings and monitor performance.

Education

Bachelor's degree in public administration, business, or related field
