Job summary

New River Community and Technical College is seeking a strategic Controller to lead accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. The role reports to the Vice President of Finance and CFO and oversees fiscal operations, audits, and institutional resources.

The Controller will direct accounting operations, ensure GAAP/GASB compliance, develop policies, and provide financial insight to senior leadership to support decision-making and stewardship.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• At least 4 years of progressively responsible financial management experience.
• At least 4 years of related accounting/business administration experience.
• At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
• CPA license (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee the College’s accounting operations and related financial activities.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
• Ensure GAAP and GASB compliance with applicable requirements.
• Lead annual external financial audit and coordinate audit materials.
• Oversee grant accounting and restricted funds.
• Manage cash, investments, and capital assets.
• Lead and supervise accounting staff.
