Job summary

Highland Community College seeks a Controller to lead the accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit coordination. You will partner with executive leadership to ensure fiscal stewardship, regulatory compliance, and long-term financial sustainability.

The Controller will oversee budgeting, financial analysis, and ERP optimization while guiding a team through month-end and year-end processes with integrity and transparency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• Master’s degree or MBA preferred, with emphasis in accounting.
• CPA highly desirable.
• Experience in higher education accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Direct the College's accounting operations, including the general ledger, cash management, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and oversee the fiscal year-end close.
• Coordinate the annual external audit and serve as the primary liaison with independent auditors.
• Assist with the development, monitoring, and analysis of the College's operating and capital budgets.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, federal and state regulations, and grant reporting requirements.
• Maintain effective internal controls and recommend improvements to financial policies and procedures.
• Oversee financial reporting and audit coordination for the Highland Community College Foundation.
• Support ERP system optimization and user training for continuous improvement.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting-related field

Master’s degree or MBA preferred with emphasis in accounting
