Job summary

Community First Credit Union is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter who balances loan requests with guidelines, policies, and regulations to deliver fair outcomes. You will analyze applications quickly, provide decisions, and help educate members when approvals aren’t immediate.

An ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance, 5–7 years of lending/underwriting experience, strong analytical skills, excellent communication, and solid MS Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field
• 5–7 years of lending/underwriting experience
• Strong analytical skills with ability to analyze tax returns, appraisals, and title work
• Knowledge of loan policies, regulations, and compliance training
• Excellent written and verbal communication with empathetic manner
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to balance productivity with attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Provide outstanding, quality service to external and internal members
• Approve/deny consumer loan requests within loan policy, communicating all needed conditions in writing
• Coach and mentor Member Service Representatives to avoid incomplete loan applications
• Identify and recommend opportunities to help members save money and meet their financial goals
• Review valuations, income/tax returns and title work needed to finalize loan conditions
• Balance productivity and attention to detail to meet member service levels while offering underwriting expertise
• Recognize viable loan alternatives when initial requests are not feasible; offer choices instead of denial
• Work well under pressure to meet deadlines and exercise sound judgment
