Job summary

Ameriprise Financial seeks a Senior Compensation Consultant to shape compensation strategy across major business areas, partnering with senior leaders to translate priorities into effective pay programs.

You will deliver market intelligence, advise on hiring and promotions, and lead compensation initiatives while influencing governance and Equity considerations across the organization. Hybrid travel to Minneapolis may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in compensation, total rewards, HR consulting, or a related field.
• Strong business acumen and experience advising leaders on complex workforce issues.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis capabilities.
• Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation (preferred).
• Experience in financial services or another complex, highly regulated industry (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Partner with business leaders to serve as the primary compensation consultant for assigned business areas.
• Build trusted partnerships with business leaders and HR teams to translate priorities into practical compensation strategies.
• Advise on hiring, promotions, organizational changes, career progression, and retention.
• Conduct market pricing and competitive analyses using survey data and industry benchmarks.
• Analyze market and workforce trends to identify risks, opportunities, and emerging practices.
• Recommend pay positioning and compensation structures that balance competitiveness, internal equity, and business needs.
• Lead or support enterprise and business-specific compensation initiatives.
• Support annual compensation planning, pay program reviews, job evaluations, and career framework work.
• Improve compensation processes and program effectiveness.
• Prepare clear, decision-focused analyses and presentations for senior leaders and executive reviews.
• Develop recommendations that reflect business priorities, market competitiveness, internal equity, and governance.
• Serve as a compensation subject matter expert and provide practical guidance to leaders, HR partners, and employees.
• Explain compensation philosophy, market dynamics, policies, and pay decisions in clear business terms.
