Job summary

This role includes developing copy and providing communications counsel to faculty and administrators to enhance the organization’s reputation through marketing and media relations. A bachelor’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• 3 years in one of: news, communication, marketing, advertising, or public relations for healthcare or large orgs.
• Experience in interviewing, writing, and editing.
• Experience in media relations or web content creation/editing or event planning.

Responsibilities

• Promotes public recognition, awareness, and support of services and achievements with strategic communications.
• Writes and plans communications across media; develops multimedia content (video, audio, photos).
• Maintains regular contact with sources to highlight achievements through news releases and features.
• Interviews faculty and staff on medical topics and explains research to the public.
• Coordinates with other communicators to present information accessibly and compellingly.
• Plans events with PR/marketing impact.
• Organizes work of staff and students as assigned.
• Develops clear, consistent communication strategies and messages.
• Maintains relations with public officials and WVU constituencies.
• Writes ad copy, TV/radio scripts; coordinates video/photography shoots; edits speeches and sites.
• As a Communications Specialist, roles may include Internet/Intranet, Publication, News, or Corporate Communications focus.
