Job summary

The City of Bloomington is recruiting a Communications professional to create and manage public information, community relations, and marketing plans for internal and external audiences. The role includes media relations, newsletters, social media, and crisis communications support.

You will develop strategic communications for City projects, measure impact with surveys and analytics, and collaborate with diverse teams to advance City priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, PR, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in communications.
• Demonstrated experience in public relations and media relations.
• Proficiency with social media platforms and digital content.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Creative production management and storytelling abilities.

Responsibilities

• Create, coordinate, and evaluate internal and external communications and marketing for print, online and video.
• Assist with media outreach, maintain reporter lists, pitch story ideas.
• Develop and implement communications and marketing plans for City projects.
• Set up surveys, questionnaires, and website analytics to inform strategies; monitor reach.
• Assist emergency management with public communications during crises.
• Write/edit the City's monthly resident newsletter and weekly staff newsletter.
• Coordinate social media content and copy for City channels.
• Photograph and compile digital images for publications, websites, social media, and print materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Communications Manager.
