Job summary

The City of Bloomington is seeking a Communications Specialist to create and manage communications for public information and develop public relations, communications and marketing plans for internal and external audiences to support organizational goals. This role also assists with media relations, social media content, and publications in print, online and video formats.

Experience with surveys, analytics, and crisis communications is preferred, and the position offers a collaborative team

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate clearly with the public and staff.
• Experience in public relations and media relations.
• Proficiency with digital content and social media platforms.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Creativity in producing print, online, and video materials.

Responsibilities

• Create, coordinate and evaluate internal and external communications and marketing for print, online and video.
• Assist with media outreach strategies and maintain a current list of reporters.
• Develop and implement communications and marketing plans for City projects.
• Set up surveys and website analytics to gather data to inform strategies and monitor results.
• Assist the City’s emergency management team to communicate with the public in crises.
• Write and coordinate the City’s monthly residents newsletter and weekly staff newsletter.
• Coordinate social media content and produce copy for City social media sites.
• Photograph and compile digital images for publications, websites and print materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Communications Manager.
