Job summary

Essie Justice Group is seeking a Communications Manager to elevate our Black feminist perspective through storytelling, content creation, and data-informed campaigns. You will oversee a small team, shape content across social, email, and website, and manage media relationships to advance our decarceration agenda.

You will lead strategic communications, coordinate with the Associate Director, and ensure our voice remains consistent, rigorous, and impact-driven.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in communications with content creation, digital/social media strategy, and media relations.
• Proficient in Campaign Monitor, multiple social channels, CMS (WordPress/Avada), and design tools (Adobe Creative Suite or Canva).
• Impeccable writing, editing and verbal communication; portfolio of content creation.
• Experience writing reports, organizational emails, op-eds, and speeches.
• Experience developing strategic communications plans, content calendars, and digital strategies.
• Experience tracking content/digital analytics and KPIs; familiarity with SEO/SMO/PPC is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop messaging that elevates Essie's brand and leadership across platforms.
• Lead 1–2 communications staff and oversee content and digital strategy.
• Create and manage content calendar; publish across socials, website, email, press releases.
• Manage media contacts and campaigns; secure media opportunities.
• Develop strategic campaign communication plans with the Associate Director.
• Analyze analytics and report KPI updates to improve reach.
