Job summary

Kelso Building Services is seeking a detail-oriented Commercial HVAC Estimator to support preconstruction and project development efforts. You will evaluate opportunities, prepare cost projections, and help secure profitable HVAC projects.

Responsibilities include reviewing docs, performing takeoffs, developing budgets, and analyzing specifications to identify cost impacts. Collaboration with ops, PMs, vendors, and customers is essential for successful bids and project execution.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating commercial HVAC, mechanical construction, or related building systems projects.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
• Strong understanding of construction costs, labor factors, and estimating fundamentals.
• Experience using estimating software, takeoff tools, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
• Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and profitability.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimates for HVAC installations, renovations, and design-build projects.
• Review drawings to identify requirements and scope.
• Perform digital takeoffs for HVAC components.
• Develop budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
• Evaluate supplier quotes and vendor pricing.
• Create conceptual budgets, preliminary estimates, and final bid packages.
• Analyze specifications for cost impacts, exclusions, or gaps.
• Coordinate with project managers and field teams on methods and assumptions.
• Prepare proposal narratives and budget summaries.
• Suggest cost-saving equipment options.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and customer discussions as needed.
• Provide estimating documentation during turnover.
• Maintain historical pricing and estimating databases.
