Job summary

The NC State Bureau of Investigation seeks an experienced Classification and Compensation Consultant to lead complex classification studies and advise leadership on staffing and pay decisions within a diverse law enforcement organization.

This full-time role emphasizes policy-compliant staffing, organizational design, and salary administration, with interactions across managers, HR staff, and OSHR. Travel may be required and Workday experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience independently conducting complex job classification reviews and organizational or occupational studies.
• Experience applying North Carolina State HR classification and salary administration policies, including internal equity and education/experience analysis.
• Advanced ability to analyze compensation, labor market, and workforce data and present well-supported recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and evaluate position descriptions, duties, org relationships and classification factors to allocate positions.
• Lead occupational and organizational classification studies, including job design, class specifications and requirements.
• Analyze compensation data and labor market information to recommend salary ranges and adjustments.
• Review complex salary actions such as reallocations, demotions, and in-range adjustments.
• Consult with managers and HR to resolve questions and communicate defensible recommendations.
