Job summary

Center for Rural Affairs in Lyons, NE seeks a Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, oversee accounting, and steward the Center’s lending portfolio. The role reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the leadership team to safeguard financial stability.

You will manage budgeting, forecasting, risk, compliance, and audits, while acting as a strategic adviser to promote growth and long-term planning aligned with the organization's mission and values.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years in a progressive financial leadership role.
• Extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (GAAP).
• Experience in loan underwriting and loan administration or risk assessment.
• Strong networking, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Planner who can prioritize work and meet commitments.
• Able to work with diverse teams and travel regionally.

Responsibilities

• Develop financial strategy and implementation to advance the Center's mission.
• Report to the Executive Director and Board on budget, finances, and loan portfolio status.
• Direct accounting, finance, and loan operations staff and vendors.
• Manage the Center's fiscal sponsorship relationship and annual audits.
• Support risk management and insurance requirements; oversee staff benefits.
• Participate in loan review and approve new loans.
• Coordinate with Granary Foundation and its Board of Directors.
• Incorporate Center Values into processes, programming, and communications.
