Job summary

Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc. seeks a strategic Chief Financial Officer to guide the organization’s financial planning, reporting, and governance aligned with its mission and long-term plans.

The CFO will lead a finance-insurance-IT discipline, oversee audits, and drive process improvements while ensuring compliance with HHS/HRSA grant requirements and applicable laws. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; CPA or equivalent senior experience; Master’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, including nonprofit management.
• 5+ years supervisory experience in payroll, A/P, A/R, GL, grant vouchering, and purchasing.
• Healthcare industry and FQHC experience preferred.
• Experience with Revenue Cycle and grants knowledge (federal/state/local) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic growth planning and align financial strategy with mission and sustainability.
• Provide timely financial reporting to CEO, Board, and management.
• Set and enforce financial standards and policies to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Oversee payroll and related reports as needed.
• Prepare for annual independent audit and support during the audit process.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial performance and drive improvements.
• Monitor industry trends and adopt best practices and new technologies.
• Oversee internal controls across accounting, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, and accounts payable.
• Assist in developing accounting and internal control policy manuals.
• Maintain asset accountability and conduct annual inventory reconciliations.
• Manage cash to maximize returns while minimizing risk.
• Ensure maintenance of accounting systems and full accountability of funds.
• Review monthly revenue reports and GL entries; ensure accuracy.
• Reconcile payments from collection agencies; maintain travel and training compliance.
